Sacraments: Divine grace for all

The seven sacred mysteries

In the Old Catholic tradition of Our Lady & St Sebastian's Catholic Church, each Sacrament is a visible sign of an invisible grace, a profound encounter with the divine. From birth to the end of our earthly journey, these sacred rites accompany us, offering strength, healing, forgiveness, and guidance. We proudly proclaim seven Sacraments created by God: Baptism, Eucharist, Reconciliation, Confirmation, Holy Orders, Marriage, and Anointing of the Sick. The sacred bond of marriage

The Sacrament of Marriage, as understood by Our Lady & St Sebastian's Catholic Church (OLSSACC), is a beautiful mystery. We joyfully recognise it as the sacramental union of two people who love each other preferentially, regardless of sex or gender identity. Through this sacred bond, spouses offer mutual witness, spiritual companionship, and material support, forming a family unit sanctified before God. This union is expected to bear the fruits of life, embracing the upbringing of children through biological procreation or adoption.

Welcoming into the body of christ

The journey into the Body of Christ begins profoundly with the Sacrament of Baptism. It is through this sacred initiation that we are welcomed into our spiritual family, marked by divine grace and embarking on a lifelong path of faith and community. Funerals are special moments in which we celebrate the lives of our beloved deceased, who now share in the fullness of god's Kingdom. Wakes (and "funeral rosaries") are also he was time to pray for the dead and those who mourn their loss.

Anointing of the sick 

Eucharist

Through the sacrament of Eucharist, we gather to partake of the Body and of Blood of Christ and to be strengthened to better live as the Body of Christ in our world.

Referring to the Body of Christ,  St Augustine admonished,  "Become what jyou  receive."  When we gather for the eucharistic liturgy (commonly called "Mass") we are strengthened by by God's Word and the sacrament of Eucharist. This sacrament is also a visible sign of our unity-saints and sinners that we are -with Christ.

Though most frequently celebrate by on Sunday mornings,  the eucharistic liturgy can celebrate by a bishop or  priest at any time, anywhere, for any intention. Anyone can be admitted to the sacrement of the Eucharistic,, and no  one is to be barred in  this respect..

At Our Lady & St Sebastian's Apostolic Catholic Church, we host a communal celebrate the at any Mass for those who would like to receive the sacrament of Eucharist for the first time (I.e., for those would like to receive their "First Communion"). We are also happy to arrange a private celebration of the sacrament at the time and place most convenient for you and your family. In the sacrament of anointing of the sick, we pray for one's spiritual and physical healing and health. Once referred to as "extreme unction"  or  "last rites", and reserved for the final moments of life, the sacrament is now available to all, even those who are not "ill" in the conventional sense of the word.

At Our Lady & St Sebastian's Apostolic Catholic Church, we celebrate the sacrament at a Healing Mass. Please speak if you desire to celebrate the sacrament of Anointing on a particular occasion.

Reconciliation 

Through the sacrament of reconciliation, we celebrate our reconciliation with God and others.

The very word "reconciliation,  derives from the Latin concillium, which means "eyelash-to-eyelash again" through the sacrament of Reconciliation.

At Our Lady & St Sebastian's Apostolic Catholic Church, we recognise the self - degradation that has resulted throughout the centuries as a result of an over - emphasis on personal sin and guilt. We hold up for all an image of God who loves and forgives us, despite our own faults and weaknesses (Jn 8:3-11).

 

The Church's sacrament are encounters with Christ, and as such, imply the forgiveness of sin. If however, you wish to celebrate the sacrament of Reconciliation with a priest or bishop, all means do not hesitate to approach him. Please note that the"confessional seal" is absolutely inviolable, and that no confessor can betray the confidence of any penitent in word or deed.

Blessings

Blessings provide an opportunity for us to thank God for any number of gifts received, including the gifts of life and health,

Material gifts like homes and cars; and religious objects which shift our attention from this world to the divine. As a parish 

Family, we often share prayers of blessings to mark special occasion like graduations, anniversaries, Mother's Day, Father Day,

And Grandparents Day.
